UPDATE: Flood insurance rates will increase April 2015

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Flood insurance rates are going up this April because the National Flood Insurance Program is implementing several rating changes related to congressionally mandated flood reform.
 
South Group Insurance Services President Angelyn Zeringue says several changes are happening this April 2015 and next April 2016.
 
In April 2015, insurers will see a $ 25 annual surcharge fee for their primary residence and a $ 250 annual surcharge fee for their non-primary residences or structures.
 
Also this year, insureds will pay a higher percentage in their insurance rates. Other changes insureds will see this year include an increase in the policy fee, and an increase in the reserve fund assessment.
 
Zeringue says many people now live in a different flood zone due to remapping. If you’ve been remapped, you may still pay the grandfathered rate you’ve been paying this year. However, if you’ve been remapped and you do not have coverage, you will only be able to get lower grandfathered rates through April of 2016.
